Category: White Border Era (1915-1930)

The White Border Era, spanning from approximately 1915 to 1930, represents a distinctive period in postcard history characterized by the use of white borders around the images.

The white border around postcards was a cost-saving measure. By not printing to the edge of the card, publishers reduced ink usage and wear on printing plates, making production more economical.

The White Border Era gradually gave way to the Linen Era in the early 1930s. Advances in printing technology and changing aesthetic preferences led to new styles and techniques, marking another evolution in postcard production.
